BIDDEFORD — The downtown revitalization organization Heart of Biddeford wants to help young people consider careers in small business, and will do so by implementing the Build A Biz program in Biddeford.
An annual, statewide program started by Kate Krukowski Gooding, with founding support from Bangor Savings, Build A Biz Day aims to give young people from 5-18 years of age the skills needed to run a successful business. The program culminates with a statewide Build A Biz Day on Sunday, May 18, and Heart of Biddeford will host a special downtown location for the businesses of the local 5- to 18-year-olds.
Families are invited to go online at www.buildabiz.me to take the course from home. Heart of Biddeford will also offer workshops for 5- to 9-year-olds and 10- to 18-year-olds on Thursday and Friday, March 21-22. Through the program’s short videos and worksheets, kids learn how to set goals, make a plan, market, advertise, budget and even give back to the community.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
