BANGOR (AP) — Lawyers for two men charged with shooting three Maine residents and burning their bodies inside a car in Bangor during a drug dispute have asked a judge for separate trials.
Attorneys for Randall Daluz of Brockton, Mass., and Nicholas Sexton, of Warwick, R.I., made their request at a hearing Wednesday.
Daluz’s lawyer argued that the state has a stronger case against Sexton, and his client can’t get a fair trial if they are tried together. Prosecutors argued against two trials.
WABI-TV reports that the judge did not rule, but gave defense attorneys a week to submit supporting materials. Jury selection was scheduled for April 28.
The suspects have pleaded not guilty to killing Daniel Borders, of Hermon; Nicolle Lugdon, of Eddington; and Lucas Tuscano, of Bradford in August 2012.
