ALFRED — The York County Juvenile Fire Safety and Intervention Collaborative has received a $2,436 fire prevention grant from FM Global, one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers.
FM Global representatives presented the award to program director Pamela Tourangeau. The award will be used to assist with fire prevention activities to help educate the community and reduce the number of fires.
Because fire continues to be the leading cause of property damage worldwide, during the past 35 years, FM Global has provided fire prevention grants to fire service organizations around the globe. Locally, the company has awarded grants to a number of Maine-based organizations.
Through its Fire Prevention Grant Program, FM Global awards grants quarterly to fire departments that best demonstrate a need for funding, where dollars can have the most demonstrable impact on preventing fire, or mitigating the damage it can quickly cause.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
