BATH — Wells wrestlers Colin Sevigney and Michael Curtis both won their second-straight state titles at the Class B state wrestling meet on Saturday at Morse High School in Bath.
Sevigney, a senior, beat Brooks Law of Foxcroft Academy 4-2 in the 138-pound weight class final. Sevigney, the 126-pound title winner last year, had pinned Camden Hills’ Taylor Crosby 3:24 into their first-round match before outpointing Belfast’s Walker Roberts 3-1 in the semifinal.
Curtis, a junior, rampaged his way through the 195-pound class, winning his first two matches by pin before beating Foxcroft’s Corbyn Bruce 14-1 in the final. Curtis, last years 170-pound champ, improved his record to 43-1 this season.
Junior Isaac Desrochers, the Warriors’ other finalist, fell to Mountain Valley’s Ethan Boucher 4-0 in the 120-pound final. Senior Charlie Taylor rounded out Wells’ medalists, taking fourth at 220 pounds.
Despite having just two finalists and one individual champion, Camden Hills used its superior depth to win its second-straight team title, scoring 124 points. Mountain Valley was second with 113 points, with Wells’ 73 points good enough for sixth.
