The Saco Republican Committee is hosting its 5th annual Lincoln Day Breakfast on Feb. 15 at 9 a.m. at the Captain’s Galley in Old Orchard Beach.
The guest speaker will be Ernie Lowell, a local historian, ferrier, craftsman, auctioneer and raconteur. As a member of the Southern Maine Garden Tractor Club, Lowell chairs the committee responsible for the annual “Make a Wish Day.” As a child, he lived in the house of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s grandfather and became a fan of the poet, often reciting some of Longfellow’s poetry at public gatherings. Lowell has written several articles published in various equine publications.
U.S. Sen. Susan Collins will be a special guest at the breakfast.
The cost is $12.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
