NAPLES – After a three-year hiatus, the Naples for the Arts Fine Arts and Crafts Show is scheduled to take place on July 26 on the Naples Causeway.
According to Laura Imbriale, director of the outdoor festival, the event has not been held since 2010 because of the revitalization efforts, including the construction of new green spaces and Bay of Naples Bridge, that began the following year and are just now wrapping up.
Imbriale said that there are 150 vendor spots available. A 100-square-foot space will cost $65 for fine arts and crafts artisans selling original work at the festival. There will be $1,250 in cash prizes awarded, with the first-place winner receiving $400.
“A lot of artists want it back. They’ve been asking when are we going to do it again, so here we are,” Imbriale said.
Imbriale held the festival for four years in the 1990s and then disbanded the festival until 2010. Now, she hopes to hold the event annually.
“It’s been a little sporadic,” she said.
Derik Goodine, the Naples town manager, said that the festival will showcase the new bridge, widened sidewalks, and new green spaces on the causeway.
“It’s going to be a good event to show what types of events we can have on the causeway now that we’ve expanded the usable areas,” Goodine said. “Once people see that, we’re going to get other ideas for other types of events that will get people to visit and come to Naples.”
Eventually, Goodine said he would hope to schedule a weekly event on the Causeway in the summer.
“I’d like to see something done almost every week if I could, which might take a year or two to get to that point,” Goodine said. “I don’t see why we can’t.”
Imbriale is now accepting artist reservations at www.naplesforthearts.com.
