I agree with the recent editorial about the tax benefit for seniors 100 percent. Seniors have had plenty of time to plan, and downsizing should be in their plans.
I am a senior and have been downsizing.
Fuel assistance is the same problem. People buy houses bigger than they can afford to heat. Channel 6 shows people closing off rooms to stay warm, saying they have to either buy oil or eat.
Look around in the background: cable TV, nice cars. I dropped cable TV and saved more than $70 per month. That helps buy oil.
Sell the house and get something smaller. But why do that when the government will heat it and give you food?
Seniors would need less help if they didn’t have to pay for everyone else who had fun and didn’t plan.
Don’t feed the animals, as they will become dependent and will not learn how to feed themselves.
