Cross Insurance, a subsidiary of Cross Financial Corp., and one of the largest independent insurance providers in New England, has announced the assets acquisitions of two insurance brokers designed to broaden the firm’s service offerings and ongoing strategic expansion plans: Willis of Northern New England, Inc. and The Insurance Exchange, Inc. of Stamford, Conn.
Formerly known as the Dunlap Agency, Willis of Northern New England is a Northeast insurance brokerage leader for a wide selection of clients, including attorneys, nonprofit organizations, hospitals and contractors. Willis of Northern New England operated out of four offices in Maine, located in Lewiston, Bangor, New Gloucester and Portland. All four offices will subsequently be re-branded under the Cross Insurance name.
Cross Insurance will retain a substantial number of Willis of Northern New England employees, many of whom have helped to build the latter firm’s reputation as a leading New England insurance agency. Cross officials remain wholly committed to serving the insurance needs of clients in this time of transition, the company says.
The acquisition of Stamford-based The Insurance Exchange, an independent, family-owned insurance agency, marks Cross Insurance’s first move into the Connecticut insurance market. Founded in 1985 by Michael and Ronnie Wiederlight, The Insurance Exchange currently produces both personal and commercial property and casualty insurance with a wide variety of commercial classes of business.
The full-service agency currently serves the personal and professional needs of individuals, families and business concerns in Fairfield County, Conn., Westchester County, N.Y. and adjacent areas in several states.
“We are truly excited to see our business roots merge with these two companies, which serve as homes to an extremely talented team of professionals,” said Royce Cross, CEO of Cross Insurance. “The rich histories of both Willis of Northern New England and The Insurance Exchange will be instrumental to our service offerings as we continue to expand our geographic reach.”
Since its founding in 1954, Cross Insurance has grown extensively through the acquisition of more than 100 insurance agencies throughout New England.
