WELLS — Bob Jorgensen, 99, founder of R. Jorgensen Antiques on Route 1 in Wells, died Tuesday at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough, according to the Wells Chamber of Commerce.
Jorgensen and his wife Becky bought the antique shop in 1971. They were very active in local organizations including the Wells Chamber of Commerce, the Historical Society of Wells and Ogunquit, the Wells Public Library and the Wells Rotary Club.
Jorgensen is credited as the driving force behind the refurbishing of the Wells Activity Center on Route 109, according to the Wells Chamber of Commerce.
Jorgensen’s children ”“ his son, Ric Jorgensen and daughter, Pam Higgins ”“ are planning a celebratory memorial gathering, tentatively scheduled for Feb. 9.
