On Oct. 29, Veterans Administration Maine Healthcare System honored Windham resident Philip Kennard, a 95-year-old World War II veteran, with a first place award in the recently held VA Creative Arts Festival. Kennard’s piece, “Twice Delivered,” won not only on the local and state levels but was given first place out of hundreds of submissions at the national VA level. The Creative Arts Festival is the culmination of talent competitions in art, creative writing, dance, drama and music for veterans treated in VA’s national health care system. In 2013, 3,383 veterans from 119 VAMCs entered the art, music, drama, dance and creative writing competitions.
