BRUNSWICK — What people need to know about being a safe driver as they age is covered in detail during The Family Tree Program, which will air during the month of November on area community cable television stations.
Joe Hahn, volunteer Smart Driver instructor for the AARP, Terry Goan, patrol officer with Brunswick Police Department, and Thea Fickett, medical review coordinator for Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles, talk about the various risks especially associated with the aging driver.
The former Safe Driver program, now called Smart Driver, is a four-hour program resulting in Maine residents being able to apply for an insurance discount.
The Family Tree, now in its 23rd year, is a monthly program broadcast on area cable stations and covers multi-generational issues providing new ideas and resources for a happier, healthier lifestyle. This program, created by Mid Coast Hospital, involves area community service agencies and is sponsored by Thornton Oaks Retirement community.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
