I should like to present the Larry Wilson Tar Sands Timeline:
March 11, 2013: Mr. Wilson (CEO of Portland Pipe Line Corp.) at a South Portland City Council workshop proclaimed in front of 400 witnesses that he would love to bring a tar-sands project to South Portland.
Summer 2013: For a very extended period of time Mr. Wilson declared that he had no plans and no permit for a tar-sands project.
October 12 and 13, 2013: Protect South Portland distributed 2,700 flyers to residents with a copy of the existing active permit to bring tar-sands oil to South Portland. This allegedly non-existing permit was renewed Aug. 28, 2012, and is not due to expire until Feb. 25, 2014 (well after the vote on Nov. 5, 2013). A day or two later, after the truth was out, Mr. Wilson withdrew the permit.
Does Mr. Wilson and his moneyed backers really believe that the residents of South Portland are so nai?ve that if the Waterfront Protection Ordinance is defeated on Nov. 5 that Mr. Wilson shortly thereafter will not apply for a new permit and get it? Without passage of the Waterfront Protection Ordinance, there will be nothing to stop tar-sands oil from coming to South Portland.
Mr. Wilson, this ploy does not pass the smell test. In fact, it stinks. Oh! Kind of like tar sands.
