Your article on SAD 6 in last week’s Lakes Region Weekly leaves me with a lot of questions. How Standish could possibly withdraw from the district – namely who uses the existing buildings? Will new buildings have to be built for Standish and Frye Island? Will the old ones suffice for reuse? Or will Standish still send students to the current middle and high schools and pay tuition?

The focus on Frye Island is also unclear to me. Gary Donohue seems to be concerned that residents who “don’t use” the schools have to pay taxes anyway – an issue settled in law – and one faced by all summer cottage owners. They cannot be given a special deal.
