BRUNSWICK
Construction work will begin today on fabricating raised asphalt-paved crosswalks on Maine Street at two Center Street and Cumberland Street, and at Bank Street and Lincoln Street.
In addition to the raised table crosswalk, granite curb extensions or bump outs will be constructed on each side. The granite curb will extend out 15 feet from the current curb line, and the area will be filled in with concrete pavers to match the existing sidewalks on Maine Street.
The Brunswick Department of Public Works is asking motorists and pedestrians to exercise patience and plan travel accordingly, as work is expected to take two to three weeks to complete, depending on weather conditions.
Traffic will be maintained on Maine Street at all times but the travel lanes may be reduced to one lane in each direction for some of the work.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
