BRUNSWICK — To connect runners with the landscape and publicize local food growers, another annual “ultra run” between farms in Freeport and Brunswick is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 13.

Called the Farm to Farm, the primary course is a 25- kilometer, or 13-mile, stretch which starts and finishes at Wolfe’s Neck Farm, off Lower Flying Point Road in Freeport. Crystal Springs Farm on Pleasant Hill Road in Brunswick is the midway point, where runners will reverse direction.

Maine Track Club, Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust and Wolfe’s Neck Farm organize the annual run. Last year’s Farm to Farm drew about 44 runners from Massachusetts, New Hampshire and even one entrant from California.

The event is still small, although all three agencies hope to grow it into a larger, “more significant” fundraiser, said Lee Cataldo, director of Outreach and Education for BTLT.

Four Hewes , at Maine Track Club, said that while not exactly a fundraiser, each agency “benefits from the race by increased exposure.”

The primary loop is a halfmarathon to Crystal Springs Farm and back. However, both shorter and longer routes will be mapped out, including a one-kilometer kids’ run, as well as a 50- kilometer/26-mile marathon-length course, and 50-mile loop and relay routes.

After crossing the finish line, runners will be treated to a warm meal prepared with locally-grown food.
