BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin College women’s soccer team recorded its third consecutive shutout in a 6-0 win over the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday afternoon.

Bowdoin improved to 6-1-1 with six shutouts, while the Huskies dropped to 4-6. The Polar Bears lead the series against Southern Maine 28-0-1, holding the Huskies scoreless for the third consecutive year.

Kiersten Turner started off the scoring for Bowdoin just under 10 minutes into the opening half. Molly Popolizio knocked a ball into the crossbar, with the rebound going to Turner for a 1-0 lead.

The Polar Bears’ second goal came at 16:54 as Kathleen Smith sent a long ball into the 18 where Popolizio connected with a header towards Audrey Phillips, who chipped the ball over Southern Maine’s Katie Cobb. The Huskies goaltender kept her team in the game with 11 first-half saves on 19 Bowdoin shots as the hosts held a 2-0 advantage at the break.

New Southern Maine goaltender Marissa Temple stopped four Bowdoin shots to open the second half before Jenna DiCicco broke through for a 3-0 lead. Demi Feder added a pair of tallies, with Marissa Tidona rounding out Bowdoin’s scoring.

Bowdoin unleashed 51 shots, while holding a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks. Bridget McCarthy started in net for the Polar Bears and recorded a pair of stops before Casey Krause came in for the final 20 minutes.

The Polar Bears travel to Trinity for a noon game on Saturday.
