With four days remaining in the “crowdfunding” campaign to pay for Eveningstar Cinema’s conversion to digital projection, the small, 100- seat basement theater still is about $21,000 shy of its $57,500 goal.
As of today, the total contributed was a little more than $36,500, according to www.seedandspark.com, the website hosting Eveningstar’s donation campaign.
However, all is not yet lost: If Eveningstar gets to 80 percent
— which is $46,000 — of the goal, Seedandspark will release the money contributed.
If that happens, theater owner Barry Norman said, he might be able to make up the difference from his own pockets and pay off the digital conversion.
Norman said he received $1,000 in checks from donors Thursday that he had yet to deposit.
“I hope that, by the end of this week, we’ll be within about $8,000 of the 80 percent,” Norman said.
It would be a reprieve, but still not the finish line:
“Either we hit the mark or we don’t,” Norman said. “There’s no wiggle room and no extensions.”
