Hallie Ephron — yes, she’s one of those writing Ephron sisters, the one who writes suspense novels that keep readers up at night — will be speaking at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Curtis Memorial Library.

She’ll be talking about her latest work, “There Was an Old Woman,” about growing up in Hollywood in a family of writers, and about coming into her own as a writer in the shadow of a talented and complicated mother.

Though she was the last of four sisters to write books, since then she’s made up for lost time.

“There Was an Old Woman” is a best-selling suspense novel that’s been delighting readers and reviewers.

It’s about a young woman who has to return home to deal with her mother’s health crisis, and her mother’s very old next door neighbor who knows more than she thinks she does about how her mother got so sick.

Ephron will talk about the personal and historical inspirations for the book, including a Bronx neighborhood that time forgot and the jet bomber that crashed into the Empire State Building on a foggy Saturday morning in 1945.

The author will be available after to answer questions and sign books.

The Curtis Memorial Library is located at 23 Pleasant St., Brunswick.
