Class of ’47 reunites

Thirteen members of Westbrook High School class of 1947 gathered for a banquet on Aug. 24.

Classmates attending the 66th reunion were Joan M. WHS class of ’52 to reunite

The Westbrook High School class of 1952 will reunite 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, at Fireside Inn (exit 48 Maine Turnpike).

Halidon Colony historical topic

The Halidon Tax Free Colony will be the topic when Westbrook Historical Society meets at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, in the community center, 426 Bridge St.

Paul St. Cyr, whose family has been inhabitants of the colony, located off East Bridge Street since it began in 1912, will present the program about development of the colony. Fisk Warren, son of Samuel D. Warren, started the colony in 1912.

The program is free and open to the public.

Parliamentary study

Do you belong to a group whose meetings are disorganized and whose discussions ramble off topic? Do you think there must be a more efficient and democratic way to get things done?

The study of parliamentary procedure is ongoing with the Thomas B. Reed Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians… how to conduct meetings, use motions, form committees, write minutes and reports, conduct nominations and elections, write bylaws, and in-depth study of Roberts Rules of Order.

Starting Thursday, Sept. 5, 10 lessons will be given covering Robert’s Rules Of Order Newly Revised. There will be two books, a text and a workbook.

These classes will be on the first Thursday of each month at the Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St., for two hours from 10:15 a.m.

TRIAD to meet

The Gorham/Westbrook TRIAD meeting from 9-10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, has been moved from Millbrook Estates in Westbrook to the Prescumpsot Commons Gym at 22 Foster St., Westbrook.

Mike Brown from Rite Aid will speak about free prescription delivery and the public is welcome.

TRIAD is a coalition of senior citizens, law enforcement and community service providers that promote safety and well being for seniors.

Swim with Seals

The Westbrook Seals Swim Team has announced the opening of its 2013-2014 swim season on Monday, Sept.9 for returning swimmers.

Seals are located at the Davan Pool in the Westbrook Community Center. The Seals host a variety of swim levels for all ages, and welcome anyone interested in joining to stop in and check out the program. There will be an open review of any swimmers interested in joining the team on Saturday, Sept.14, from 10 -11 a.m. John Smith is head coach of the Seals Swim Club

Free session for food addicts

Food Addicts In Recovery will hold a free, anonymous information session 6:30-8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, in the conference room at 20 Liza Harmon Memorial Drive in Westbrook.

New bridge for Animal Refuge League

A group of Portland’s Consigli Construction Co. employees and family members recently removed and reconstructed a walking trail bridge for the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

The Consigli team spent a day rebuilding a new, wider, 40 foot-long bridge to be used daily, rain or shine, by volunteers who walk the shelter’s animals through its 72-acre property in Westbrook. The new bridge is now wide enough to allow for trail maintenance equipment to pass through.

Hancock Lumber of Kennebunk donated lumber for the bridge’s reconstruction.

The Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, on Stroudwater Street, is a private nonprofit animal shelter that provides temporary care and shelter for nearly 4,000 stray, abandoned or owner-surrendered animals each year, placing as many as possible into responsible and caring homes.
