TOPSHAM — Maine is falling short on legislation to combat cancer, according to a new report by the American Cancer Society.

Maine measured up to benchmarks in only three of 10 measured areas, said the report, which evaluated funding for early detection, tanning bed restrictions for minors, physical education requirements, smoke-free laws and more.

Cancer will kill 3,240 Mainers this year, the Society said.
