GORHAM – Recuperating from being stabbed multiple times last month in South Boston, Kayleigh Ballantyne has been released from a hospital and is home in Gorham.

“She’s doing well,” a family friend, Quinton Porter, said on Tuesday.

Ballantyne, 21, was stabbed repeatedly shortly after midnight on July 24 on Gates Street in Boston. Her description of the attacker led Boston police to arrest a suspect within hours on a charge of assault with intent to murder. A Boston TV station, WBZ, reported that Ballantyne was stabbed six times and was able to kick the knife out of the assailant’s hands.

Boston police did not release her name.

A Gorham High School graduate in 2010, Ballantyne was a three-time all state field hockey selection. She has been a standout athlete for three years at Bryant University in Rhode Island.

Ballantyne’s brother, Kendrick Ballantyne, is a former Baltimore Ravens tight end.
