FREEPORT — Passengers can take the train to Freeport from any Downeaster station for just $10 one-way as part of Amtrak’s three-day Downeaster Rail Sale, Aug. 20-22.
Up to two children ages 2 to 15 can ride for $5 one-way when accompanied by a $10 adult fare.
Janet Dutson, executive director of FreeportUSA, said the promotion is geared toward back-to-school shoppers.
“Freeport is the perfect place for back to school shopping,” Dutson said. “Shoppers will find great deals on name brand clothing and supplies at the over 200 shops and outlets within walking distance of the train station.”
Reservations are required. Call 1-800-USA-RAIL.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
