RICHMOND

Richmond police responded to two accidents this weekend involving bicycles, one which struck a pickup truck.

The first occurred at around 2:34 p.m. near the intersection of Pleasant and Hagar streets Friday. Richmond Police Chief Scott Mac- Master said a 15-year-old from Richmond was riding a bicycle on Hagar Street and failed to come to a complete stop as he turned onto Pleasant Street, and slammed into the side of a 1981 Chevy 1500 pickup truck driven by Joseph Cox, 40, also of Richmond.

North East Mobile Health Services responded, MacMaster said, and the teen complained of minor pain and was checked at the scene but didn’t require transport. He was released to his father.

MacMaster said the teen was not wearing a helmet and had headphones on at the time of the crash. The mountain bike was badly damaged because it was run over after striking the side of the truck, which sustained minimal damage to the passenger door. No charges were issued.

Police were then called to the Richmond Dresden Bridge at 9:11 a.m. Saturday for a bicyclist who fell facefirst onto the grated bridge deck. MacMaster said the operator of the bicycle, Lee Larson, sustained a laceration to the face or head area and was bleeding when Officer Josh Staples got to him. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center by a North East Mobile Health Services ambulance.

MacMaster said Richmond and Dresden firefighters assisted with traffic, which had to be stopped from entering the narrow bridge while Larson received medical attention.
