CAPE ELIZABETH — Organizers of the TD Beach to Beacon 10-kilometer running race in Cape Elizabeth want to make sure that runners keep Boston in their thoughts.
The starting horn for Saturday’s race will be sounded by Karen Rand, a former Westbrook resident who lost her left leg in one of the two bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15.
A moment of silence will be observed in memory of the three people killed in the Boston attack and a blue and gold ribbon with the words “Boston Strong” has been painted at the finish line.
Cape Elizabeth native Jane Benoit Samuelson, who founded the Beach to Beacon, was a two-time Boston Marathon winner.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
