Maine Education Services has announced a Student Blogger Scholarship that will award $2,000 to two Maine high school students, one junior and one senior.
To apply, students must submit a sample blog post of 300-500 words describing their biggest worries, concerns and challenges regarding college. These sample blog posts will be reviewed and evaluated and two winners will be chosen.
Scholarship winners will be required to submit a minimum of six blog posts, one at least every other month throughout the 2013-14 school year, starting in October. The blogs, which must focus on the college search, college decisions, financing or other related topics, will be posted on the MES CRAVE website.
The application deadline is Sept. 16. Details for applying can be found at www.mesfoundation.org. Scholarship winners will be announced by Sept. 30.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
