A Freeport business owner faces weapons and assault charges in connection with an incident reported Monday night at 164 Wardtown Road.
Ryan T. Doherty, 46, owner of Doherty’s North Freeport Store on Wardtown Road, is charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and assault.
According to Freeport police, officers learned at 7:52 p.m. Monday that an assault had occurred in the driveway of 164 Wardtown Road. Doherty, of Brunswick, and a juvenile male from Freeport were involved in the assault, police said. Doherty was later charged with assault for this incident, police said.
While investigating the juvenile’s injuries, Freeport officers were informed of another incident at North Freeport General Store. Some time after the alleged assault, some of the juvenile’s friends from Freeport arrived at the store to talk with Doherty, police said. During this exchange, Doherty allegedly displayed a handgun and threatened the teens.
The teens left in a vehicle, police said.
Doherty has a Portland Superior Court date of Aug. 20.
