PHIPPSBURG
The Phippsburg Fireman’s Field Day and Road Race provides a day of fun for children and adults alike — and it’s an important day for the Phippsburg Fire & Rescue Association.
Registration for the race, at the Phippsburg Elementary School ball field, begins at 7 a.m. Sunday. A kids’ 1-mile fun run begins at 8, followed by the 5K road race.
A $15 registration fee can include a T-shirt, or racers can pay $10 for the race only. To sign up, go to www.FiremansRoadRace.com.
The 5K race will begin at the fire station, up Route 209 to near Stonybrook Road, and back to the fire station.
Volunteer members of the Fire & Rescue Association will do a toll both on Route 209, to raise money for equipment and other essentials.
“Our field day is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” Fire Chief James Totman said.
The field day commences at 10, and features food, games, prizes and contests. From 10 to about 2 p.m., there will be competition between town departments, a dunk tank and fun house for kids, and food.
The next big fundraiser for Fire & Rescue is Aug. 26. Members will waits on tables at the Water’s Edge Restaurant, earning tips and a portion of the proceeds.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
