WESTBROOK – A new ice cream shop in Westbrook has opened just in time to help customers beat the summer’s hottest days.
Corsetti’s on Bridgton Road in Westbrook, has opened Daily Scoop, which serves a variety of Gifford’s ice cream, shakes, sundaes and other frozen treats.
“We see about 200 people a day. It’s just starting to pick up,” said Mieka Bodge, the manager of Corsetti’s.
Daily Scoop has been open since the end of June. So far the popular flavors include black raspberry frozen yogurt; Camp Fire S’mores, which is vanilla ice cream with chocolate, marshmallow and graham cracker bits; and Chocolate Rainforest Crunch, chocolate ice cream with a caramel ripple, candy-coated cashews and chocolate flakes.
“We really wanted to re-establish Corsetti’s as a family friendly neighborhood destination. What better way to do that then by adding ice cream?” said Kristi Sarchi, co-owner of Corsetti’s. “And that’s why we named it Corsetti’s Daily Scoop. You can get a scoop of ice cream or you can come meet up with neighbors and get the latest scoop of information,” she said.
The ice cream shop has a treat for everyone, from those with allergies to the family pet.
“There are a lot of options for people with allergies. The owner’s son is allergic to nuts and I am, too,” said Kiara Bodge, 18, an employee at the ice cream shop.
All nut products, including ice cream with nuts, is separated and never cross-contaminated. Kiara Bodge is lactose intolerant and has a nut allergy, but she can still work at the establishment because the ice cream is kept in separate freezers, all nut products are kept on the opposite side of the room from those without nuts and even the milkshake maker is labeled to show which mixer can be used for nuts and which cannot.
Only the Frost Bites, similar to the Diary Queen Blizzard, cannot be guaranteed as nut free because the ice cream shop only has one machine to make them.
The shop even offer options for those who are lactose intolerant. The soft serve is gluten and lactose free and low fat, with only 100 calories per serving.
And just to make sure everyone is covered, Daily Scoop offers a treat for the family pet – the Dog Sundae, soft serve ice cream with dog bones.
There is also a whoopee pie sundae, a sundae with a whoopee pie on top, as well as traditional sundaes, banana splits, frappes, parfaits and two freezers’ worth of ice cream choices.
“I like the smiles on the little kids faces when they get their ice cream. Everyone’s in a good mood when they come here,” said Kiara Bodge.
Sarchi said the reason they added the ice cream shop was because the family loves ice cream.
“While in college at UMO, I worked at an ice cream shop and I’ve always said it was my favorite job. People are generally having fun when they are getting ice cream and it’s a family friendly event,” Sarchi said.
Camp Fire S’mores, a vanilla soft serve with sprinkles and black raspberry ice cream, all served in sample-size cones at the new Corsetti’s Daily Scoop in Westbrook.
