BRUNSWICK — First Parish Church, United Church of Christ, announces its 28th annual Summer Organ Concert Series.

Beginning Tuesday, July 9, and continuing through Aug. 13, this weekly series of six noontime concerts will feature local and international organists. All concerts will be on the church’s 1883 Hutchings, Plaisted & Co. pipe organ, which was restored by the Andover Organ Co. of Methuen, Mass.

All concerts begin at 12:10 p.m. and will last approximately 45 minutes.

The concert series begins with Mathias Schmelmer, organist and director of music of the Protestant Church of the Holy Cross in Berlin, Germany, on July 9. Ann Hartler plays on July 16. Canadian organist Jacques Boucher will be joined by violinist Anne Robert in concert on July 23. Perennial favorite Harold Stover will present the concert on July 30.

York native and current student at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music Katelyn Emerson will perform on Aug. 6. Emerson returns to this series after winning several competitions, including the American Guild of Organists Regional Competition.

Ray Cornils, minister of music at First Parish Church, UCC, and Portland municipal organist, will play the final concert on Aug. 13.

First Parish Church completed a major restoration of the church and tower in 2003. During this time the Andover Organ Co. of Methuen performed major restoration work, which included a complete overhaul of the mechanical playing action, repairs to the wind chests which had water damage due to leaks in the tower, complete tonal finishing of every pipe in the instrument, and the addition of two ranks of pipes to the organ.

The Hutchings/Plaisted Organ Co. of Boston, one of the nation’s foremost organ builders in the late 19th century, originally built the organ in 1883. They also built organs for Yale University, Wellesley College, Mt. Holyoke College, Vassar College, Brown University, St. Paul’s School, Exeter Academy and Boston’s Symphony Hall, Old South Church and Church of the Advent.

All concerts are open to the public. Admission is by donation at the door; $5 suggested. First Parish Church is located on Maine Street at Bath Road (next to Bowdoin College). A tour of the historic building will follow each concert.
