BRUNSWICK
Brunswick Junior High School students placed high in this year’s New England Math League competition.
Sixth-grade students placed 16th out of all the New England schools that participated, and first place in the state.
Daniel Lyons placed 22nd out of all sixth-graders taking the exam in New England, and he tied for an individual first-place score in the state.
Seventh-grade students tied Falmouth for first place in the state and placed 13th in all of New England. Lily Gaffney had an individual first-place score in the state.
Eighth-grade students placed second in Maine, finishing close behind first-place Falmouth. They were 25th in the New England Region. Stephanie Zhang had an individual third-place high score in Maine and Anna Webster was fourth overall.
The Math League competitions involve over 1 million students in the United States and Canada. The competition is divided into regions. Brunswick competes in a region that includes all the New England states.
The contest is a written exam with questions from different areas of mathematics with a focus on problem solving.
