TOPSHAM

Maine wil be featured in an exhibition 1,500 miles away in St. Louis, Mo., thanks to an international artist with Mid-coast ties who now lives in Topsham.

Patricia DuBose Duncan, of Topsham, is participating in “Maine Trees” — a series of work that’s part of “50+: Exhibition Celebrating Success” at the Washington University School of Fine Arts.

Duncan is best known for her work preserving some of the last remaining tall grass prairie land in the Midwest. She published a book of writings and photographs titled “Tallgrass Prairie: The Inland Sea,” and is credited with helping create the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Kansas.

The Smithsonian Institution commissioned Duncan to create a large traveling exhibition — “The Tallgrass Prairie: An American Landscape” — which traveled across the United States from 1976 to 1986.
