DAMARISCOTTA — Jeffrey Miller, a master blacksmith and historian from Waldoboro, will demonstrate his trade at Lincoln County Historical Association’s Chapman-Hall House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 22.
Miller will work at his 18thcentury traveling forge, creating a number of small items and sharing insights into the daily work of a blacksmith. Miller will show samples of items that the smith might make for his customers, including a pair of ice skates, a gun lock and cooking tools.
To benefit the preservation work now under way at Chapman Hall House, one of Miller’s hand-forged roasting forks will be raffled. An essential tool around the cooking hearths of the period, this fork is popular for handling large pieces of meat and makes a unique conversation piece.
Chapman-Hall House is one of three historic properties under the stewardship of the Lincoln County Historical Association, along with the old jail in Wiscasset and Pownalborough Court House in Dresden.
