Sanborn said Officer Dean Hannon, Officer Ted Hatch and Gorham Rescue responded to the Life Church for a woman in her mid-40s who was unresponsive on April 15.

“Upon Officer Hannon’s arrival, CPR was in progress. He assisted with CPR and applied an automated external defibrillator,” Sanborn said. “Once connected, a shock was advised. This was delivered and CPR continued.”

Resuscitation efforts continued, Sanborn said, and the woman ultimately regained a pulse, respirations, and a palpable blood pressure.

Besides Hannon and Hatch, those receiving lifesaving commendations included firefighters/emergency medical technicians Chad Charland, Dean Belanger, and Brandon Brichetto along with firefighters David Webb, Joey Haberny, David Kroll and Cumberland County Regional Communications Center dispatchers Josh Merrill and Ryelle Atkins.

Sanborn said Paul Lambert, Clint Steele and Charles Carmen were citizens present at Life Church when the incident happened. They called 911 and started CPR, Sanborn said.

Troop 73 set for Allagash

Boy Scout Troop 73 will be going on a weeklong canoe trip on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway during the third week of June.

This will be a seven-day canoeing adventure from Indian Stream to Allagash Village and will include a community service project for the Maine Department of Conservation to restore and preserve a portion of the pristine waterway.

During the planning, Troop 73 realized there would be a significant cost for necessary equipment, food, travel and managed lands entrance fees. In order to make this trip possible, Troop 73 asked for donations to help subsidize the cost.

Troop 73 would like to recognize the following businesses/organization who provided donations: Cabela’s, Scarborough; Gorham Flag Center; Gorham Historical Society; Gorham House of Pizza; Gorham Recreation Department; Gorham Subway; Hansen’s Well Drilling; Harmony Lodge #38 AF & AM; Johnson & Jordan Mechanical Contractors; Key Bank, Gorham; Norway Savings Bank, Gorham; Wagner Forest Management; and Wyman’s Auto Body.
