The David Haas Memorial Scholarship, in conjunction with the Brunswick Area Student Aid Fund, has announced the Haas fund received “an amazing donation of $3,000 from Eric Welzel and the Jordan Acres PTO.”
The David Haas scholarship fund now has nearly $8,000 for Brunswick-area students. The scholarship was established in memory of U.S. Army Capt. David Haas, who died at age 29 in July 2012 while serving in South Korea.
Haas attended Jordan Acres School while growing up in Brunswick and often went back to visit his former teachers when home from deployment.
Haas, a 2001 Brunswick High School graduate, was interested in a career in education after his service.
“David’s spirit and dedication to the Brunswick community are passed on through these incredible donations,” according to a news release from the student aid fund.
The David Haas Memorial Scholarship provides needbased cash assistance in Haas’ name to graduating Brunswick High School seniors. Visit www.brunswick.k12.me.us/da vid-haas-scholarship/ for more information.
