The City Council on Wednesday night will conduct a required second vote on a moratorium that would temporarily ban licenses and permits for “adult-use” establishments.
The meeting, which begins with a public hearing on the city budget, begins at 6 p.m.
According to Scott Davis, the city’s code enforcement officer, Jim Tower of the Bangor area has expressed an interest in starting a strip club at Riverside Pub on Washington Street. Tower does not own the establishment.
On May 1, the City Council voted 6-2 to enact the sixmonth ban, which requires the second vote in order to go into effect.
The council also Wednesday is considering a $9,373,627 municipal budget and $961,664 for capital improvements, not including bonds.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
