Kari Babcock, who has 18 years of service with Regional School Unit 1 schools, is the new principal at Fisher-Mitchell School.
The RSU 1 Board of Directors approved the nomination Monday night.
Babcock, currently the principal at Phippsburg Elementary School, succeeds Nancy Harriman.
Babcock, who lives in Boothbay, taught at Woolwich Central School for 14 years.
Phippsburg takes in students from kindergarten through fifth grade, while Fisher-Mitchell is grades 3-5.
“Those are the grades I taught in Woolwhich — 3-to-5 — so that’s more what I’m accustomed to,” she said. “But I’m really going to miss Phippsburg.”
Phippsburg has less than 100 students, while Fisher- Mitchell has around 240 students.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
