As part of its 13th anniversary celebration, Now You’re Cooking and King Arthur Flour are sponsoring a birthday cake competition.
The contest will be held at Now You’re Cooking, 49 Front St., on Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m. All cakes should be dropped off at the store by 12:30, and judging will begin at 1.
Cakes will be judged on presentation and creativity, taste and texture.
Prizes will be awarded in two categories: “Cake Connoisseur” and “Audience Favorite.”
Prizes for the Cake Connoisseur category will be: first place, $75; second place, $50; and third place, King Arthur Baker’s Companion Cookbook. Contest attendees will determine the winners in the Audience Favorite category, and the top three winners will receive gift certificates to Now You’re Cooking.
“Every year, we try to make our anniversary celebration fun for our customers and ourselves,” says Mary Milam, general manager for Now You’re Cooking. “We’ve had so much fun with our Irish soda bread competition that we’ve decided to have a birthday cake baking contest.”

Now You’re Cooking will kick off its 13th anniversary celebration starting Thursday, May 9, with its monthly wine tasting and a free gift for the first 60 guests.
The four-day anniversary event will end on Mother’s Day and will include daily raffle prizes and demonstrations.
