GORHAM – The Gorham Police Department appears to be moving closer toward an arrest of those responsible for two bomb threats last week in the vicinity of Gorham Middle School, 106 Weeks Road.

“We have identified people of interest and the investigation is ongoing at this time,” Detective Sgt. Dana Thompson of Gorham police said Tuesday.

Police responded on April 25 to a bomb threat in the area of the middle school.

“The students were sheltered in place during the initial investigation and eventually dismissed at normal dismissal time,” Sgt. Michael Nault said in a report.

The following day, Gorham police were advised of a more specific threat in the area of the school. Again, students remained at the school until dismissal time. But, students who normally walk to the middle school were bused to Gorham High School where they were dismissed.

Nault said all after-school activities were canceled.

The school department notified parents by email.

“We want to inform you of another bomb threat today at Gorham Middle School,” the letter read.

“As per our protocol, we contacted Gorham Police and Fire who immediately came to the school to determine, with building administration, what our best course of action would be. After complete examination, we are determined that this writing was a benign message and did not require any further action.”

The school department said the investigation would continue until the individual responsible is caught. Thompson said a bomb threat is a “class C felony level crime.”
