The Sagadahoc County Budget Advisory Committee will hold a public hearing tonight before it finalizes a recommendation on the county’s 2013-14 budget to submit to the Sagadahoc County Board of Commissioners.

The committee is looking at a 2013-14 budget of $8.7 million — an increase of $167,824 or 1.97 percent. The amount to be raised by taxes is $7.8 million — an increase of $233,836 or 3 percent.

County Administrator Pamela Hile said the increases come because the county has less money in reserve than previous years.

The proposal reflects an additional $30,795 to replenish funds taken from the emergency contingency account in the current fiscal year; an additional $20,000 in the commissioner’s contingency fund for unanticipated payroll and benefit issues; a projected $70,842 increase in benefit costs; and an additional $36,560 in capital requests to address deferred and unanticipated maintenance.
