HOME-SCHOOLED BOWDOIN STUDENTS Adam Dustin, grade 6 and Aaron Dustin, grade 8, stand in front of their exhibit — “Benjamin Franklin: God’s Wrath, the Kite Experiment and the Lightning Rod” — which won first place in the Junior Group Exhibit category during a Maine National History Day competition April 3 at the University of Maine at Augusta. They will now compete in a national event, at the University of Maryland, in June. Brooke Tranten of Brunswick High School won first place in the Senior division for a paper titled, “The Necessity of Nuance: Pope Pius XI and XII and the Turning Point in Vatican Diplomacy, 1929-1943.” Nathaniel Lay and Zachary Lay, homeschoolers from Bath, won third place in the Junior Group Documentary category for their documentary titled, “The Battle of Midway: Setting Sail to Victory in World War II.” For a complete list of winners, visit www.maine.gov/sos/arc/historyday/winners2.html
