
While transporting a pregnant woman to Mid Coast Hospital on Oct. 6, 2012, Brunswick firefighter Claire Dufort recognized the mother was not going to reach the hospital before delivering.
So Dufort helped deliver the baby at the roadside near the Cook’s Corner intersection.

Dufort — a Brunswick Fire Department member for eight years — was elected EMS director for the department in 2010, making her responsible for monitoring and overseeing three ambulances, equipment and EMS training and licensures.

— Brunswick Police Department’s Marine Resource Officer Dan Devereaux, who began his career with the police department as a patrol officer in 1997. He was assigned to be the town’s marine resource officer in 1999.
Devereaux was responsible for enforcing local shellfish ordinances and state statutes along the town’s 66 miles of coastline. He then took over the role of harbor master and oversees the shellfish program.

— Trooper Kyle Pelletier of Maine State Police Troop D, who patrols Interstate 295 from Topsham to Gardiner.
In 2012, Pelletier responded to 772 calls for service, made 1,661 traffic stops and issued 62 criminal summonses. He is a 2005 graduate of Monmouth Academy who served five years in the U.S. Navy and graduated from the state police academy in 2011.
— Cumberland County Sheriff ’s Department Detective Brian Ackerman, who solved a sex crime case in July 2012 involving a 12-yearold girl.
— Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department Sgt. Dale Hamilton, a member of the department since 1987 who “took on a significant number of criminal cases as the lead investigator” in 2012, including a home invasion in Bowdoinham that led to felony convictions and a residential burglary in Woolwich in which a suspect was arrested and charged, with many of the stolen items recovered.
— Virgil “Andy” Anderson — a part-time Phippsburg police officer — was investigating a medical call in May 2010 and ended up identifying and apprehending a fugitive from Virginia wanted on several charges.
— Topsham police Officer William Collins was recognized for using a “never give up” work ethic to complete complex investigations, one of which spanned six months involving multiple victims.
— Topsham Fire and Rescue Capt. Gregory Payson, who has been with the department since 1993 and has shown “selfless dedication to the town of Topsham and the department,” Fire Chief Brian Stockdale wrote in his nomination letter.
— Lorana Pierce of the Phippsburg Fire and Rescue Department was honored for more than 20 years of volunteer service.
Awards were presented by 8th District of Maine American Legion Commander Bill O’Connell and Maine first lady Ann LePage, who was made an honorary life member of The American Legion.
“I know what it means to support my husband and children in whatever they choose to do,” LePage said, “so it’s hard for me to imagine just how difficult it must be to have a loved one putting their life on the line each and every day for the safety of others.
“Yet this is what law enforcement officers do every day here in Maine and across the nation. You have all taken an oath to protect and to serve the people of Maine no matter what. I truly thank you for that.” Video @ www.timesrecord.com
