BRUNSWICK — More than 50 Mid-coast child-care providers recently gathered to learn how to promote healthful eating and physical activity.
The first Midcoast Healthy Kids Training was held March 23 at Bath Area Family YMCA, and included skillbuilding workshops such as how to grow an onsite garden, preparing and serving healthful snacks, and a movingwith Zumba class provided by Kathy Lamothe from Tony’s Zumba and Fitness Studios.
The Let’s Go! 5-2-1-0 message — eating five fruits and vegetables per day, limiting screen time to two hours per day, engaging in one hour or more of physical activity per day, and limiting sugar-sweetened beverages to zero — was also reinforced.
The next Let’s Go! 5-2-1-0 communitywide event is a Storywalk at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick, 10 a.m. April 18. The event is free and open to the public and will feature a Wild Animal Alphabet Storywalk based on the book by Georgetown author and illustrator Dahlov Ipcar.
The free training was given by Mid Coast Hospital, Access Health, the Midcoast Community Transformation Grant Program and the Bath Area Family YMCA.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
