Masquerade Ball celebrates ‘Cinderella’
Freeport Family Performing Arts will be holding a Masquerade Ball in celebration of its upcoming performance of “Cinderella, The Story You Never Knew.” The ball is Saturday, April 6, from 6-8 p.m., at the Mast Landing School cafeteria. There will be prizes for best prince or princess costume, as well as music, dancing, raffles, punch and snacks provided by Freeport Family Performing Arts performers and families. Admission is $5 at the door.
Freeport Day next week
In honor of Freeport Day on April 9, Nordica Theater is offering residents of Freeport a free movie. Ben & Jerry’s is offering residents a free ice cream cone. Proof of residency is required. Donations are accepted at both events and all proceeds benefit Freeport Community Services and the FCS Scholarship Program.
Freeport First Friday concert and dinner
Freeport First Friday at the Freeport Community Center on April 5 at 6 p.m. will feature the mellow tones of Randy Roy accompanied by the magic keyboard of Larry “Flash” Allen. Beacon Hospice needs volunteers
Beacon Hospice needs volunteers to visit patients and families in the Freeport, Brunswick and Bath areas. The organiation is about to begin its spring hospice volunteer training, a seven-week free training course to prepare those interested in visiting terminally ill patients and their families living at home or in facilities. Time and location of training is flexible and built around the needs of the volunteer. References, a background check and medical screenings are required.

Freeport Players
to hold auditions
The Freeport Players have announced auditions for the production of “39 Steps,” a fast-paced, comedic adaptation of the Alfred Hitchcock classic, Sunday, April 7, and Monday, April 8, from 6:30-8 p.m., at the Freeport High School cafeteria. The auditions are for one woman and three men. Appointments are not required, but actors are recommended to notify Elizabeth Guffey at info@fcponline.org. The play will be presented July 19-Aug. 4.
Karri Guimond hired

Chris Cunningham at Brett Davis Real Estate, Freeport, has announced that Karri Guimond has joined Brett’s Team at Brett Davis Real Estate as administrative assistant.
Guimond was an associate broker from 2003-2005, and decided to get her associate’s degree in paralegal studies. After working in law for a time, she found that she missed her interactions with clients buying and selling real estate. Guimond lives in Bowdoin with her husband Ryan and their two girls, Kiana and Rylee. She enjoys camping, kayaking and attending and watching NASCAR races.

Emily Martin, a 2012 graduate of Freeport High School has been placed on the 2012 fall semester William Smith College in Geneva, New York Dean’s list for outstanding academic performance given to students with a grade point average of 3.5 or above.

Shellfish license renewals due
Commercial shellfish license renewals must be submitted to the Town Clerk’s office no later than the last business day in April. The renewal license fees are; Resident Commercial $200, Non-Resident Commercial $400, Resident Student Commercial $25, and Non-Resident Student Commercial $50. There is a water testing surcharge of $30 per license. The application must be accompanied by payment of 50 percent of the required license fee. The remainder of the fee must be paid no later than the last business day in May. To be eligible to purchase a renewal license, a person must have been licensed the previous year and must have completed conservation work as determined by the Shellfish Conservation Commission. Sale moved
The Freeport Community Center Thrift Shop Estate Sale Annex has moved to a new location at 48B West St. The annex is open Fridays and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1-4 p.m. The original thrift shop is located at 53 Depot St. and is open Monday -Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Free tax help
AARP will be providing free tax preparation assistance for low- to moderate-income households with special attention to those 60 or older, through April 10 on Wednesday mornings at the Freeport Community Center. ‘Lunch with Locals’
on April 16
The Freeport Historical Society is hosting a series of lunchtime meetings to assess the strengths and weaknesses of its collections with input from the community. The “Lunch with Locals” series will take place on Tuesday, April 16, from noon-1:30 p.m. The meetings will be at the historical society’s headquarters at the Harrington House, 45 Main St. The public is invited to bring a brown bag lunch for informal discussions about particular aspects of the collection, as well as a rare close-up view of the society’s collections. lifts April 15
The town parking ban, which prohibits parking on all town streets from 11 p.m.-7 a.m., is in effect until April 15.
Library news and notes
The GWC (Giving Children Warmth) program will be making blankets for children in Afghanistan by knitting squares and sewing them together. The group meets on Mondays from 2:45-4 p.m. to teach volunteers from age 11 through adult to knit.
Story time for toddlers and preschoolers takes place every Tuesday morning. There are two 15-minute story times at 9:30 and 9:45 a.m. for younger kids with shorter attention spans. At 10, there is a 30-minute story time for preschoolers. The morning features songs and a small snack.
The FCL Reading Group will discuss “When We Were the Kennedys,” by Maine author Monica Wood, on Wednesday, April 3 at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome.
The library is holding its annual book sale from Saturday, April 6 through Thursday, April 11. A variety of books and videos will be available for purchase.
The April Vacation Movie on Tuesday, April 16 at 1 p.m. will be “Wreck it Ralph,” rated PG. The movie is 1 hour 50 minutes long. Admission is free and includes a bag of popcorn.
A “Grow Your Own Organic Garden” workshop with an MOFGA instructor will be held on Wednesday, April 17 from 6-8 p.m. Register by calling 865-3307. A $5 fee for handouts will be collected at the workshop.
The Thursday midday movie on April 18 at 1 p.m. will be “Skyfall,” starring Daniel Craig as James Bond. The movie is rated PG-13.
Freeport Yoga Co. will present “Yoga for Kids” on Tuesday, April 23 at 10 a.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their toddler or preschooler for morning yoga that includes stretching, breathing and fun.
