GORHAM — New England College senior attack Brian Gillis scored a game-high four goals, including three in the second half, as the visiting Pilgrims overcame a one-goal halftime deficit to defeat the University of Southern Maine, 11-8, in non-conference men’s lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
The win was the second straight for the Pilgrims, who improved to 3-4, while the Huskies fell to 3-4.
Down 6-5 at the halftime intermission, the Pilgrims strung together six consecutive goals to take an 11-6 lead midway through the fourth quarter.
Southern Maine outscored NEC 5-2 in the second quarter to forge the 6-5 lead at halftime. Sophomore Kaleb Smith scored off a nice feed from classmate Burleigh Desjardins of Brunswick.
