Harpswell Coastal Academy, a new public charter school, will offer its final parent and student informational session today at 7 p.m. at Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St.
The academy is a new public school, open to any Maine student, that plans to open in September with 30 sixthgraders and 30 ninth-graders. Parents must submit an online “declaration of intent to enroll” form by 5 p.m. Thursday, March 28. Print versions of the form will be available at the session.
Of 60 available slots, John D’Anieri, head of school, said the academy has about 56 enrollments. He said he expects five to 15 more by the deadline. If there are more students seek admission than available slots, the school would conduct a lottery at 3 p.m. Friday, March 29 at the Cundy’s Harbor Community Center.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
