BATH — The Morse High School Interact Club is planning a safe-driving rally at school May

10.

The event is part of the national Take Back Our Streets campaign sponsored by the National Association for Youth Safety. Morse is the only school in Maine participating.

Participation in this program has allowed students to explore the topics of safe driving. In addition to the habit most people have to buckle up, club members want students and community members to drive sober and free of distracting cell phones.

Autumn Thompson, a senior in the commercial arts program at Bath Regional Career and Technical Center, used her design skills to make the winning T-shirt, which says: “If you text and drive it’s not just your life at risk.”

The design will be entered into a national competition.

The rally will be coordinated by Interact members and involve activities promoting the message of being safe on the road. Club members have invited Communities Against Substance Abuse, Bath police and Cross Insurance to take part.

Interact is modeled after Rotary. It is a club for students interested in community service ages 14-18. The club completes a minimum of one local and one international community service project each year.
