More than a month after the Feb. 12 propane explosion that killed a Bluff Road resident, the fire department is taking calls from neighbors worried that their propane tanks are leaking.
At 7:38 a.m. today, firefighters responded to 67 Bluff Road, to investigate the report of a propane smell in the building. A neighbor had shut off the tank, according to the report. An engine and rescue truck were on scene.
“There was no gas leak,” Fire Chief Steve Hinds said. “There was a negative reading from the unit.”
Dale Ann Fussell died when a leaked propane tank led to the explosion of the duplex where she lived on 29-31 Bluff Road. Bath firefighters have visited the area at least twice since then to investigate odor complaints.
Hinds said he appreciates why neighbors are nervous. “I understand fully,” he said. “We don’t mind going over there and doing that at all.”
