TOPSHAM
Selectmen will send a letter to the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority supporting the sale of a former Topsham annex lot to an abutting business.
The MRRA board is “ripe to approve” Precast of Maine’s bid to buy a lot next door to its plant at 139 Main St., according to John Shattuck, the town’s economic development director.
Shattuck said the sale would allow Precast, which makes concrete products, to adjust its sideline and create enough setback for a new entrance at Canam Drive that “would support their ability to move product, particularly out of one of their manufacturing buildings.”
Selectemen voted 4-0 to send the letter, with the stipulation that any changes in zoning go before the Planning
Board and meet town land-use requirements.
Selectman Don Russell said MRRA wants to be sure it fits into Topsham’s vision, “and it certainly would be an advantage to that existing building up there and moving his product out to the market.”
