A late-night crash on Route 9 left a car on its roof, ensnared in the guy wires of a utility pole.
The car was traveling westbound about 10 p.m. when it veered off the road, also known as Newell Brook Road, vaulted off a snowbank, went airborne and landed in Gordon and Miriam Robbins’s front yard.
Once earthbound again, it rolled twice before finally coming to rest on the pole’s anchor stays.
Authorities at the scene did not disclose whether the driver was hurt or what likely caused the crash, which destroyed a decorative tree and cracked the utility pole.
Emergency crews had to place a strut BEneath the vehicle to stabilize it while they extricated the driver, whose name and condition were not available.
Crews later cut power to the lines so a wrecker could remove the car from the Robbins’s yard.
The driver was taken to the Maine State Police barracks in New Gloucester to undergo sobriety testing. Authorities continue to investigate.
