BRUNSWICK
A Durham man was arrested Monday after allegedly refusing to get out of the vehicle when police pulled him over.
Deputy Chief Marc Hagan said Detective Aaron Bailey spotted Ethan Peters, 22, of Durham at Brunswick High School knowing the operator had a suspended license, so he called for a patrol officer.
Officer Charles Reece was on his way to the school and passed Peters on Maquoit Road, Hagan said.
He conducted a traffic stop on Maquoit Road at which point Peters “jumped into the passenger seat,” Hagan said. “We asked him to step out of the vehicle and he refused. We had to physically pull him from the vehicle.”
Peters was arrested on charges of operating while license suspended or revoked, possession of suspended of fictitious license, and two counts of attaching false plates.
Peters was driving a green Mitsubishi Galant. Hagan said when police ran the license plates, the front plate showed it belonged to a blue Toyota Corolla and the rear plate to a black Mustang. This morning, Hagan said police are still investigating how Peters got the plates.
